As the inauguration of the new Parliament building approaches, a significant event will unfold with the presentation of the historic sceptre known as Sengol to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sri Harihara Desika Swamigal, the 293rd head priest of Madurai Adheenam, will have the honor of presenting the Sengol to the Prime Minister during the ceremony on May 28. Expressing his admiration for PM Modi, Sri Harihara Desika Swamigal has voiced his belief that the Prime Minister should return to office in 2024.

The Sengol holds immense historical and symbolic significance, as it represents the transfer of power from the British to India. It was originally received by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister, on August 14, 1947. The same Sengol, meticulously crafted by Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers, will now be handed over to PM Modi, symbolizing the continuity of fair and equitable governance.

Sri Harihara Desika Swamigal praised PM Modi for his global recognition and commended his efforts in serving the people of India. The Swamigal expressed pride in witnessing world leaders appreciating the Prime Minister’s accomplishments and stated that PM Modi’s leadership is deserving of another term in 2024.

The forthcoming meeting between PM Modi and Sri Harihara Desika Swamigal is eagerly anticipated, as the Sengol will be officially presented to the Prime Minister on the momentous occasion of the new Parliament building’s inauguration. The Sengol, made of silver and gold-plated, will be a testament to the rich history and continuity of India’s democratic governance.

Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the historical significance of the Sengol, recounting the night of August 14, 1947, when Jawaharlal Nehru received it from the Adheenams (Priests) of the Thiruvaduthurai Adheenam in Tamil Nadu. This symbolic act marked the precise moment of India’s transfer of power from British rule to the hands of its own people.

The decision to adopt the Sengol as a national symbol of the Amrit Kaal (Era of Nectar) was taken by Prime Minister Modi. The installation of the Sengol in the Lok Sabha, prominently positioned near the Speaker’s podium, will serve as a constant reminder of the historical significance of the transfer of power and the nation’s commitment to fair governance.

The Parliament House itself holds deep significance as the venue for installing the historic Sengol. It is considered the most appropriate and sacred location to preserve and showcase this emblem of India’s democratic journey.

As the new Parliament building is dedicated to the nation, the presence of the Sengol will serve as a powerful reminder of the democratic values that India upholds. It will stand as a symbol of continuity, reminding all who enter the hallowed halls of Parliament of the responsibility and duty to serve the people and uphold the principles of fair and equitable governance.

The presentation of the Sengol to PM Modi during the inauguration of the new Parliament building is a momentous occasion that celebrates the legacy of India’s independence and the journey towards a prosperous future. It serves as a testament to the nation’s commitment to democracy, unity, and the collective aspirations of its citizens.
