New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed confidence on Friday that opposition parties will join forces to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming 2024 general elections. Speaking at a gathering of Congress workers and leaders in New Delhi, Gandhi highlighted the ideological battle between the Congress’ “Bharat Jodo” (Unite India) ideology and the BJP’s “Bharat Todo” (Divide India) thinking. He emphasized the significance of unity within the party and predicted victory for the Congress in states like Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana.
Accusing the BJP of fostering division, hate, and violence, Gandhi asserted that India is witnessing a clash of ideologies. Referring to the opposition’s determination, he stated, “All opposition parties have come here, and together we are going to defeat the BJP.” Prominent leaders from opposition parties recently convened in Patna to strategize the formation of an anti-BJP front for the forthcoming general elections. The meeting, hosted by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of the Janata Dal (United) and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, aimed to chart out a roadmap for the united opposition.
Gandhi highlighted the recent example of Karnataka, where the BJP faced defeat once the Congress stood united. He expressed confidence that a similar outcome would be witnessed in Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, with the Congress emerging victorious. Gandhi attributed this success to the party’s commitment to standing with the poor.

Emphasizing the Congress’ stance on love and unity, Gandhi stressed that hate cannot counter hate; only love can. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP of working solely for the benefit of a few individuals at the expense of the nation’s wealth. In contrast, Gandhi highlighted the Congress’ dedication to serving the poor and marginalized.
Addressing the Congress workers, Gandhi praised their dedication and described them as “Babbar Sher” (lions) fighting for the party’s ideology. He reassured them of the party’s responsibility to protect its workers and vowed to stand alongside them.
In a tweet in Hindi, Gandhi reiterated the opposition’s commitment, stating, “We, the ones who unite India, will defeat those who divide India.” Gandhi, along with Congress chief Kharge and other party leaders, participated in the opposition meeting aimed at devising a roadmap to challenge the BJP in the 2024 general elections.
