Ankita Puwar, an electrical engineer from Sector 7 in Chandigarh, achieved an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 28 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination for the year 2022. The results were announced recently, and Ankita’s remarkable accomplishment is a testament to her perseverance and dedication. Her family background is rooted in farming and the military, with her ancestral village being Gosain Khera in Jind district. Presently, Ankita serves in the DANICS (Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Civil Services) cadre.
Ankita’s academic journey commenced at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 19, where she completed her schooling in 2013. Her exceptional performance as the CBSE Chandigarh topper with an impressive score of 97.6% paved the way for her admission to IIT Roorkee, where she pursued a degree in electrical engineering. After graduating, Ankita gained valuable industry experience as a software engineer at Oracle in Bangalore, where she worked for nearly two years.
However, in October 2019, Ankita made a significant decision to leave her job and dedicate her efforts to prepare for the Civil Services Examination. In 2020, she achieved a notable milestone by securing AIR 321 in the UPSC examination, which set the stage for her current success. Throughout her journey, Ankita drew inspiration from her parents, who provided unwavering support and motivation. Her father, Bhup Singh Puwar, recently retired as a scientific engineer from the Haryana Government’s Department of Science and Technology, while her mother, Kamlesh Puwar, is a homemaker.
Ankita adopted a two-pronged approach to her Civil Services Examination preparation. She sought coaching for the preliminary stage in Bangalore, followed by extensive self-study. Anchored by her relentless commitment and the encouragement of her loved ones, Ankita propelled herself towards success.
Expressing her gratitude, Ankita acknowledged the pivotal role played by her parents in her accomplishments. Their unwavering belief in her abilities and consistent support served as crucial motivating factors throughout her journey.
In addition to Ankita’s achievement, Aaditya Sharma, a 24-year-old resident of Zirakpur, secured AIR 70 in the UPSC examination. Aaditya completed his MBBS in 2022 and drew inspiration from his elder sister, who is currently pursuing a DM (Doctorate of Medicine) at the PGI in Chandigarh. Motivated by his sister’s pursuit of higher education and her aspirations in the civil services, Aaditya decided to take on the challenge of the UPSC examination. He followed a rigorous self-study routine and supplemented it with online coaching, dedicating countless hours to studying in the hospital library.
Aaditya’s journey into the field of civil services began after completing his MBBS degree. Leveraging various online resources, he gained a comprehensive understanding of the UPSC syllabus through self-study. His dedication and perseverance led to his notable achievement of securing AIR 70 in the UPSC examination.
Both Ankita Puwar and Aaditya Sharma serve as inspirations to aspiring civil servants, demonstrating the significance of determination, hard work, and self-belief in achieving success in the highly competitive UPSC Civil Services Examination.
