Hyderabad: Nayakanti Naga Bhavya Sree, the remarkable female topper in JEE Advanced 2023, recently celebrated a momentous achievement that marked the culmination of years of hard work and determination. Reflecting on her journey, she credited her father’s decision to send her to Hyderabad and the influence of former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, as key factors in her success. Kalam’s speeches on fearlessness and perseverance deeply impacted Bhavya, making him one of her biggest role models.

Recalling her source of inspiration, Nayakanti Naga Bhavya Sree shared, “Kalam sir spoke about fearlessness in the face of failure and staying composed during adversities. These ideas deeply resonated with me and continue to inspire me. I believe in giving my best and leaving the rest to destiny. My drive comes from the desire to establish my identity in society, and over these five years, I was confident that securing a top rank would bring me closer to my dreams.”
Hailing from Proddatur in the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, Nayakanti Naga Bhavya Sree’s parents, Nagendra Kumar and Indralatha, are government school teachers. Recognizing Bhavya’s aptitude in math, physics, and chemistry from an early age, they made the decision to support her IIT aspirations and sent her to Narayana Junior College in HITEC City, Hyderabad. Since then, Bhavya has dedicated approximately 12 to 13 hours per day to her studies.

Nayakanti Naga Bhavya Sree’s preparation during the exam
Bhavya emphasized the significance of both preparation and temperament during the exam, stating, “I firmly believe that success is 70% preparation and 30% temperament during the exam. I worked diligently on both aspects. I aimed to eliminate careless errors and thoroughly prepared myself. Math is my strongest subject. I owe my success to my parents and my institution, Narayana.”
Her exceptional academic journey led her to participate in the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad in Slovenia earlier this year as one of the four selected girls from India. Bhavya’s unwavering focus on leveraging her strengths and not letting challenges deter her has been a key factor in her success. Failure was never an option for her.
Proud of Bhavya’s achievements, her father, Nagendra Kumar, expressed his support and admiration, saying, “She has always excelled academically, and she worked incredibly hard. As teachers, we never imposed any pressure on her; we allowed her to carve her own path. She knows what is best for her.” The decision to send Bhavya to Hyderabad at the age of 12 was based on recommendations from family friends and their own former students.
Scoring an impressive 298 out of 360 marks in the JEE Advanced 2023 examination, Bhavya now aims to pursue a BTech in computer science engineering from IIT Bombay. Looking toward the future, she envisions herself as a mathematician researcher or an entrepreneur, with aspirations of pursuing higher studies abroad within the next ten years. Her journey has also inspired her younger sister, currently a 10th-grade student at Narayana School, to chase her own IIT dreams.
Bhavya’s remarkable achievements serve as a shining example of dedication, perseverance, and the power of unwavering support. Her success not only highlights her own accomplishments but also inspires countless others to pursue their dreams and strive for excellence
