The Ministry of Finance announced on Thursday that a special ₹75 coin will be launched to mark the inauguration of the new parliament building. The commemorative coin will pay tribute to India’s celebration of 75 years of independence and will be unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.

One side of the coin will feature the Lion Capital of the Ashoka Pillar, with the inscription “Satyamev Jayate” below it. The word “Bharat” will be written in Devanagari script on the left side, while the word “India” will be written in English on the right.

The coin will also display the rupee symbol and the denomination value of 75 in international numerals below the Lion Capital. On the other side of the coin, an image of the parliament complex will be depicted. The upper periphery will bear the words “Sansad Sankul” in Devanagari script, and “Parliament Complex” will be written in English on the lower periphery.

Circular in shape with a diameter of 44 millimeters, the coin will feature 200 serrations along its edges. Weighing 35 grams, it will be made from a four-part alloy consisting of 50% silver, 40% copper, 5% nickel, and 5% zinc.

The inauguration of the new parliament building will be conducted by Prime Minister Modi on Sunday. While 25 parties are expected to attend the ceremony, at least 20 opposition parties have decided to boycott the event.

The Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Left, Trinamool, and Samajwadi Party, among others, have announced their boycott, citing the perceived erosion of democracy as the reason. They question the significance of a new building when they believe the “soul of democracy has been sucked out.”

In response, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) launched a sharp counter-attack on the opposition, labeling their decision to boycott the inauguration as a “blatant affront to democratic ethos and constitutional values of our great nation.”
