Former Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain, who has been detained in Tihar Jail since last year, was hospitalised after slipping and falling in the bathroom at the jail
this morning around 6 am. officials said on Thursday.
Jain was admitted to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital with minor injuries. The incident occurred in the Medical Inspection (MI) room of the Central Jail, where he was under observation for general weakness. After examination by doctors, Jain’s vital organs were found to be normal. However, he was referred to DDU Hospital due to complaints of back, left leg, and shoulder pain.
Jain has been suffering from acute lumbar pain, vertigo, and chronic lower back pain caused by a slipped disc, according to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). An MRI conducted on May 3 revealed degeneration in all intervertebral discs, leading doctors to recommend urgent spinal/vertebral surgery and post-operative care. However, Jain is currently placed as No. 416 on a waiting list by the jail authorities, which means he may have to wait another five months for the surgery.
On May 15, Jain filed a plea in the Supreme Court seeking bail in an alleged money laundering case against him. He challenged the Delhi High Court’s order dismissing his bail plea. Jain was arrested on May 30, 2022, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) by the Enforcement Directorate. The case is based on a complaint by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) alleging that Jain had acquired movable properties between February 14, 2015, and May 31, 2017, that he could not satisfactorily account for.
