In the civil services examination 2022, women secured the top four ranks, as announced by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Ishita Kishore, a graduate from Delhi University, secured the first rank. Garima Lohia, Uma Harathi N, and Smriti Mishra secured the second, third, and fourth ranks respectively. Lohia and Mishra are also graduates of the University of Delhi, while Harathi N holds a B.Tech degree from IIT-Hyderabad.

Here is the list of toppers in the UPSC 2022 examination:

These four candidates secured the top ranks in the civil services examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in 2022. It is noteworthy that women dominated the top positions in this year’s examination, with  top four ranks being secured by female candidates.

This marks the second consecutive year in which women candidates have claimed the top three positions in this prestigious exam. In the civil services examination 2021, Shruti Sharma, Ankita Agarwal, and Gamini Singla secured the first, second, and third ranks respectively.

UPSC Topper Ishita:

Ishita Kishore

In the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2022, Ishita Kishor (Roll Number 5809986) has secured the first position across the country. She passed the exam with Political Science and International Relations as her optional subjects. She has completed her graduation in Economics (Honors) from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University.

Ishita Kishor has always been a topper and she has studied at Air Force Bal Bharati School and Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi. She had determined from her childhood that she would become an IAS officer. Aajtak.in has covered her success story.

Success in the third attempt
Ishita Kishor’s father is an officer in the Air Force, and the whole family resides in Greater Noida. Ishita completed her 12th grade from Bal Bharati School in 2014, and then in 2017, she graduated with Economics (Honors) from Shri Ram College of Commerce. This was her third attempt in the UPSC examination.

Father’s inspiration
Ishita was anxiously waiting for the results today, but she had no idea that she would become the All India topper. As soon as the result was announced, her name spread everywhere. When she told her mother about it, she also started dancing with joy. Ishita revealed that she has always seen her father dedicated to serving the nation. That’s why, since childhood, I had this thought in my mind that when I grow up, I will also pursue a job that serves the country’s interests, just like my father, where I can contribute to the service of the nation.

UPSC second Topper Garima Lohiya

Garima Lohia

Garima Lohiya is from Baksoor, Bihar. She completed her education from Woodstock School in the same place. Her father, Narayan Prasad Lohiya, passed away 8 years ago. During the COVID-19 lockdown, Garima decided to prepare for the UPSC exams and dedicated herself to the preparation with full determination. She did not succeed in her first attempt, but in her second attempt, she secured the second position in the entire country.

Preparing at home
Garima made up her mind to study at home. She said, “It is not necessary to go to a big city or enroll in expensive coaching institutes for preparation. Study wherever you find it convenient. I decided to study at home because whenever we feel demotivated, the support of the family is invaluable.” She studied by reading books on her own and using online study materials, which helped her achieve success.

Smriti Mishra

A total of 933 candidates (613 men and 320 women) qualified the civil services examination 2022, with the top 25 candidates consisting of 14 women and 11 men.

The civil services examination is conducted annually by the UPSC in three stages: preliminary, main, and interview. It selects officers for positions such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.

The educational qualifications of the top 25 successful candidates range from various disciplines such as engineering, humanities, science, commerce, and medical science. These candidates have studied at esteemed institutions such as IITs, NITs, University of Delhi, Gujarat National Law University, Jadavpur University, and Jiwaji University, among others.

The successful candidates opted for subjects such as anthropology, commerce and accountancy, economics, electrical engineering, law, history, mathematics, political science and international relations, philosophy, sociology, and zoology as their optional choices in the written (main) examination.

The UPSC also noted that 41 Persons with Benchmark Disability were among the recommended candidates, including those with orthopedic, visual, hearing, and multiple disabilities.

Out of the total qualified candidates, 345 are from the General category, 99 from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), 263 from Other Backward Classes (OBC), 154 from Scheduled Caste (SC), and 72 from Scheduled Tribe (ST).

The UPSC reported a total of 1,022 vacancies to be filled through the civil services examination, including positions in the IAS, IFS, IPS, Group A central services, and Group B services.

Candidates can obtain further information or clarification regarding the examinations/recruitments from the UPSC’s ‘Facilitation Counter’ near the Examination Hall on working days or through telephone numbers provided by the UPSC.

The marks obtained by the candidates will be available on the UPSC website within 15 days from the date of the result declaration.

The civil services preliminary examination 2022 was conducted on June 5, 2022, with a total of 11,35,697 applicants and 5,73,735 candidates appearing for the exam. Out of these, 13,090 candidates qualified for the written (main) examination, which took place in September 2022. Finally, 2,529 candidates qualified for the personality test phase of the examination.
